Saint-Germain-des-Prés - 6th.
Our original atelier is located on the left bank of the Seine, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, one of the oldest districts of Paris. Its history dates back to the classical age when the Romans built a paved road that crossed the area. The district was known then as "Prata Neronis", in reference to the fields of Nero.
In the Middle Ages, Saint-Germain-des-Prés became an important intellectual and religious hub. Its abbey, founded in 558, became one of the richest and most influential in Paris. Here, the monks produced illuminated manuscripts and taught theology.
Over the centuries, the district continued to attract artists, writers, and intellectuals. In the 20th century, Saint-Germain-des-Prés saw the emergence of its famous cafés and bookstores which drew gatherings of prominent figures such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus, and Boris Vian... The district was and continues to be a mecca for the cultural life of Paris, most known for its typical streets, its sites and squares, restaurants, art galleries, and elegant boutiques. It remains a symbol of the intellectual and artistic life of Paris and of French elegance.
Our germanopratin ateliers reproduce the original spirit of the district. Located in an old historical paved courtyard we kept the charm and chose to adapt the space for our authentic pastry workshops. In here each of the participants is immersed into a world apart, at once intimate and surprising. We have recreated a cabinet of curiosities mixing childhood and voyager memories, old books and trinkets, and works of art from different eras, styles, and cultures.
